Preston Mitchum Biography
Preston Mitchum a native of Ohio, is an American attorney, queer advocate, and activist. He is the founder of PDM Consulting, a consulting firm aiming to present and empower Black people, LGBTQ+ people, and young people.
He is set to appear in the reality tv show Summer House: Marthar’s Vineyard premiering on May 7, on Bravo. Preston has previously worked as a Director of Advocacy and Government Affairs at The Trevor Project. The organization is the world’s largest suicide prevention and mental health organization for LGBTQ young people. In August 2017, he joined Georgetown University Law Center as an Adjunct Professor of Law.
In addition, he has previously served as a Director of Public Policy at URGE: Unite for Reproductive & Gender Equity and as a Senior Legal & International Policy Analyst at Advocates for Youth. Mitchum was the first openly LGBTQ chair of the Washington Bar Association Young Lawyers Division.
He was named D.C.’s Most Committed Activist by Washington Blade in 2021. Mitchum has been featured in various magazines including, The Root, The Atlantic, CNN, The Washington Post, and BET.com. In addition, he was named 2020 Best LGBTQ Lawyers Under 40 by the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, concentrating on Public Policy. Preston earned his Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University School of Law. Mitchum is one of the cast members appearing in Bravo’s reality show Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard. The show is a spinoff of the reality show Summer House. The show features an all-black cast as they enjoy their vacation in Martha’s Vineyard, an island south of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The island is one of the first destinations that African-American people visited and also purchased land.
