Mike Holmes Biography
Michael James Holmes better known as Mike Holmes, is a Canadian builder/contractor, businessman, investor, television host, and philanthropist. Mike was only six when his father started teaching him construction work. At the age of 21, Mike founded his own renovation company. In 2006, he started The Holmes Foundation. The foundation’s main goal is to encourage young people to join construction and assist in improving poorly done renovations.
Mike also works with SOS Children’s Villages. In addition, Mike is the author of two books; Home Renovation with Canada’s Most Trusted Contractor and Holmes Inspection: Everything You Need to Know Before You Buy or Sell Your Home. In 2006, Holmes received recognition in the House of Commons of Canada for his promotion of skilled trades and for his advocacy for improved building standards. He was also named an “extraordinary craftsperson” and “an accomplished master builder with a social conscience”

They tied the knot on December 12, 2018, in St. Lucia. The couple has a daughter named Cali Kay Holmes Steed.
Mike Holmes HGTV
In 2003, Holmes starred in his first tv show Holmes On Homes which premiered on Corus Entertainment’s HGTV Canada. He later starred in a one-season series, Holmes in New Orleans. In this show, he worked on the construction of a new home in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans to replace the one destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
Towards the end of Holmes on Homes, Holmes began a new series called Holmes Inspection which premiered in 2009. In the show, Holmes inspects constructions gone wrong. In 2012, Holmes starred in a new series called Holmes Makes It Right. The series renovates houses that were destroyed by natural disasters or had bad home inspections and wrong contractor work.
In 2016, Holmes appeared in Holmes and Holmes alongside his son Mike Jr. The same year, Holmes appeared in Holmes: Buy It Right. In the show, Holmes serves as an advisor to new home buyers. Other shows that Holmes has appeared in include; Holmes: Next Generation, Holmes Makes It Right: Retooled, Holmes 911, Holmes Family Effect, and Holmes Family Rescue.
In addition, Holmes has hosted and appeared as a judge in several shows. He appeared as a judge on Handyman Superstar Challenge, All American Handyman, and on season 1 of Canada’s Handyman Challenge. In 2015, he hosted a new eight-episode show called Home Free. Holmes guest starred in Home to Win, Corner Gas and also appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show twice in 2006.
Holmes has several companies. His company The Holmes Group is the conglomerate and holding company for Mike Holmes’ companies. In 2021, he launched his other company Mike Holmes Protection. He also partnered with several home builders and renovators in Canada and the United States to start a program Holmes Approved Homes.
